
As of April 1, 2025, the CCES will independently administer the UCCMS through the application of the new CSSP Rules for federally funded, national-level sport organizations.

In assuming the mandate for safe sport in Canada, the CCES stepped back and reviewed its organizational strategy and structure so that it is fit for purpose as a broader sport integrity agency. While this work is ongoing, below are a few important updates.

Ottawa – February 24, 2025 – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) announced today that Mikal Thrones, a powerlifting athlete, received a five-year sanction for an anti-doping rule violation. The athlete’s urine sample, collected in competition on December 14, 2024, revealed the presence of five prohibited anabolic agents: metandienone, drostanolone, SARM RAD140, SARM LGD-4033, as well as GW501516, which is a prohibited metabolic modulator. The athlete also admitted to the use of BPC-157, a prohibited non-approved substance.
Ottawa – February 4, 2025 – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) announced today that Madeline Schmidt, a kayak athlete, received a 20-month sanction for an anti-doping rule violation. The athlete had three confirmed whereabouts failures during a 12-month period.

Ottawa – February 26, 2025 – This year, the Muslim holy month of Ramadan will begin the evening of February 28 and end March 29. During this time, athletes who are observing Ramadan may be notified for urine and/or blood sample collection by anti-doping agencies, such as the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) or their international federation, at any time, in any place, with no advance notice.

Ottawa – January 2, 2025 – The World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) 2025 Prohibited List is now in effect. The updates for 2025 are relatively minimal, consisting mostly of clarifications, recategorization of substances, and new examples within existing categories.
