October 25, 2024 – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) mourns the passing of Dr. Jack Taunton, world-renowned sport medicine physician and champion of sport.
Of his many accomplishments, Jack was the Chief Medical Officer at the Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee where he oversaw the CCES’s implementation of the state-of-the-art anti-doping program for the 2010 Games. He later served six years on the CCES Board of Directors helping foster ethical sport for all Canadians.
“Jack was an amazing advocate for the Vancouver 2010 anti-doping program, ensuring it was a success and protecting the integrity of sport and the safety of athletes,” said Jeremy Luke, CEO and President of the CCES. “He’ll be remembered for his relentless energy, superior leadership capabilities, along with his passion, dedication and commitment to clean sport. He was kind spirited, generous with his knowledge, and had time for everyone he met.”
Jack was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada in 2024 – an honour that recognized his leadership in sport and exercise medicine in Canada, and his life’s work supporting athletes, including Team Canada.
