(Ottawa, Ontario – December 28, 2018) – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) would like to congratulate Beckie Scott on her recent appointment to the Order of Canada. This prestigious honour recognizes Beckie’s outstanding achievements as a three-time Olympic athlete, her significant contribution to the fight against doping in sport and her important work in helping indigenous youth in Canada.
CCES CEO, Paul Melia, noted, “Among her many achievements, including her Olympic medal performances, Beckie Scott has passionately fought for the rights of clean athletes in Canada and around the world. She has demonstrated real courage in her willingness to speak truth to power and to disrupt the status quo in sport so that the voice of athletes can be heard.”
One of Beckie’s legacy contributions to sport will most certainly be the creation and championing of the Anti-Doping Charter of Athlete Rights, something she is working to see enshrined in the next revision of the World Anti-Doping Code.
As the first North American woman to win an Olympic medal in cross-country skiing (having won both Gold and Silver medals), Beckie is highly deserving of her appointment to the Order of Canada. Beckie has previously been inducted into the Canadian and Alberta Sports Halls of Fame, the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame and the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame.
As Canada’s national anti-doping organization, the CCES was fortunate to have Beckie Scott serve on its Board of Directors from 2006-2010.
